perfomance se odehravá v prostoru o velikosti 20 až 30 metrů čtverečních. na zemy je světlý koberec pokrývajcí celý prostor. dále je zde šestnáct pytlíků z vysavače, plných odpadu, získaných od rodin a veřejných institucí. každý z nich má odlišnou velikost a pravděpodobně i obsah. poslední z nich je z instituce, kde se tato perfomance odehrává.

oba aktéři příjdou na plochu ohraničenou velikostí koberce a po celou dobu performance se z ní nevzdálí. přinesou si sebou všechny potřebné věci a nástroje. jsou jimy: nůž k otevření pytlíků, sešit a pero k zaznamenání obsahu vzorku, samolepící stítky, vysavač a naposled patnáct nových pytlíků. oba aktéři budou na sobě mít normální oblečení, budou po celou dobou používat ochrané roušky na ústa a nebudou obuti.

akce microfiltration začíná takto. jeden z aktétů vezme pytlík a pomocí nože ho otevře a celý obsah vysype na koberec. poté začnou aktéři zkoumat obsah vzorku a zapíší ho do sešitu. každý záznam by měl začínat jménem rodiny nebo instituce odkuď pytlík pochází. aktéři také označí vzorek na koberci pomocí samolepícího štítku. záznamy se lepí během akce do jedé roviny na nejbližší zeď.
po dokončení záznamu aktéři vysají jednu polovinu odpadu do nového pytlíku. následně prozkoumají další vzorek a vysají jeho polovinu do stejného pytlíku, kde je již odpad z předchozího. takto postupují u všech 16 vzorků. poté co aktéři budou mít všechny pytlíky otevřeny a prozkoumany, před nimy na zemy bude ležet nových 8, které vznikly zkřížením osmy dvojic vzorků plných domácího nebo veřejného odpadu.

následuje druhá část perfromance, kdy aktéři již nepořízují záznamy vzorků, ale pouze šlechtí odpad. postupují jako v předcházejcí části akce - otevírají jednotlivé pytlíky, jednu polovičku odpadu vysají a druhou ponechají na koberci. na konci mají nové 4 pytlíky. v každém z nich jsou obsaženy 4 vzorky.

akteři pokračují, a ze 4 pytlíků vytvoří nové dva, obsahujcí osum druhů odpadu.

z těchto dvou pytlíků pak vznikne poslední, v kterém jsou všechny počáteční vzorky.

tím končí celá performance a oba aktéři mohou odejít.

v první verze microfiltration se odehrál v galerii jelení v praze v roce 2001. spolu s markem therem jsme shromáždili 16 papírových sáčků z vysavačů. většinou od přátel a známých. sáčky byly plné domácího odpadu. samotná akce probíhala následně: při vernisáži jsme sáčky nejprve rozřezali a poté jejich obsah rozložili na podlahu. z šestnácti takto vzniklých hnízd jsme znovu vysáli přibližné poloviny do nových osmi sáčků. následně jsme stejným postupem vytvořili sáčky čtyři, dva a na závěr sáček jediný; obsahujcí vzorky ze všech 16 sáčků. den poté jsme na zeď galerie nalepili fotografie, informace o obsahu jednotlivých sáčků a schematický diagram jejich křížení.

druhá verze performance se uskutečnila v halle für kunst v roce 2005 v luenenburgu, jako součást kolektivní výstavy the need to document. galerie shromáždila 16 papírových sáčků z vysavačů plných běžného domácího odpadu od přátel a od veřejných institucí. dva aktéři se pokusili během performance zkřížit obsah sáčků. další den byly pověšeny na zeď výstavního prostoru informace o obsahu jednotlivých sáčků.

the performance takes place in a space that is 20 to 30 meters square. there is light carpert covering the entire space on the ground. in addition, there are sixteen vacuum cleaner bags, full of waste, acquired from families and public institutions. each of them is a diffent size and probably has different contents. the last one is from the institution where this performance takes place.

both actors enter the surface defined by the size of the carpet and remain there for the entire time of the performance. they bring with them all the things and instruments needed. there are: a knife for opening the bags, a nobook and pen for noting the contents of the samples, stick-on labels, a vacuum cleaner, and finally fiftien new bags. both the whole time, they wear protective masks over their mouths. they do not wear shoes.

the microfiltration action begins thus: one of the actors takes a bag, opens it with the knife, and dumps the entire contents on the carpet. both actors then begin to examine the contents of the sample and to note them down in the notebook. each record begins with the name of the family or institution that provided the bag. the actors also mark the sample on the carpet with a stick-on label. during the action, the records are stuck on the nearest wall, all at the same lavel.
after the record is finished, the actors vacuum up one half of the waste into a new bag. subsequenty, they study another sample and vacuum up half of it into the same bag that contains the waste from the previous sample. they proceed thus with all 16 sample. after the actors have opened and studied all the bags, there will be eight new ones lying on the ground in front of them, which contain a mixture of eight pairs of samples full of domestic or public waste.

the second part of the performance follows. the actors no longer make records of the samples, but only refine the waste. they proceed as in the preceding part of the action. they open the individual bags, vacuum up one half of the waste and leave the other half on the carpet. at the end, they have four new bags. each of them contains four samples.

the actors continue, making two new bags, containig eight types of waste, from four bags.

these two bags zield the last one, which contains some waste from all the original sample.

this ends the performance and both actors can leave.

the first version microfiltration was made in jelení gallery in 2001. marek ther and i collected 16 vacuum cleaner bags filled with common domestic dirt. as we obtained them from friends, the sacks were of various sizes, shapes and design. the individual action transpired during an opening where we first cut up and spread out their contents in order on the floor. of the sixteen, a nest emerged that resembled mendel’s charts for crossing colored peas. we took about half of them and put them into eight bags. then in the same way we made four bags two and in the end only one bag. the next day we pasted photographs on the gallery walls – information about the inside of the individual bags, with diagrams of their crossing.

in 2005 microfiltration took place at the exhibition the need to document in halle für kunst in luenenburg. the gallery collected 16 vacuum cleaner bags filled with common domestic dirt from friends, privit comanies and public institution. the gallery hired two participants to do the performance instend us. the next day the gallery hunged an information about the inside of the individual bags.
